Window Installation

When I came back from 2 months away, everything was very overgrown. It was so pretty that instead of mowing everything down right away, I weed-whacked little pathways all over the property. It was so whimsical and I'd spend afternoons wandering through the pathways like a walking medication, and dreaming up ideas for creating different garden zones.

This photo also shows the bedroom window and the wall where we would be installing a window in the living room.

Dad, mapping out the plans for the living room window.

So this is definitely a barn conversion, with just 4x4 posts on every exterior wall.

Mom sent me this while I was at work, so funny. The dungeon is now a sun room!

Taped, and ready for the new window to go in. Notice the bright red poppies in the background. We saved a ton of their seeds and spread them in the field to see if they come up this year, fingers-crossed some make it.

Insulated and sheetrocked, the window is in, it looks so good, and the new view of my neighbor's garden is gorgeous.

Now, we get to take out this old wrongly sized, for the opening, bedroom window. The window is larger than the interior hole cut to fit it which means all of the giant spiders living in the walls live inside with me. Before we replaced this, I tried shoving a towel in the large hole, which didn't work, then put up a temporary board but that also didn't work at keeping them out.

Here, you can see where the wildlife was coming in behind this 4x4 post.

You can see the new 2x4s we put in (from the outside) when we removed the wall rot. I think this original window was 2 1/2 x 6 and higher off the ground than building requirements. We replaced it with the same as the living room window, a 4 x 5 that abides by building codes.

I'm so happy with all of the new light that pours into this room now. In this photo, you can see the closet framing for the new closets flanking this door, more on that later.

During all of this work, we were in high summer and the sunflowers were firing off.

My neighbors love sunflowers too, I can't plant them too close to the fence or it's off with their heads.

This year I'm going to have to stake them for support because they didn't get the support they needed last season.

The windows today, looking so good.

Both windows have a 7" sill, which is great for my house plants and I think it adds depth and texture to my small space which helps make it feel larger. Putting in these windows was the biggest game-changer in terms of improving everyday life in this space. I love them.
